Default Engine noise please help!!!!

I have a 98 polaris scrambler 400 4x4 and i bought it last year and rarely ride it.... I noticed that the engine has a tick(almost knock) it sounds like its in the front of the engine... Does anybody have any idea what this could be??? Does the crank case on these (2 strokes) have oil??? if so where do i check it?? thanks

The tick you mention possibly could be piston slap, and should be addressed right away b4 cylinder out of round occurs.

I agree with uncertified mechanic, Our 325 magnum has started doing this as well. My mechanic listened to it and said it was most likley piston slap. time for a freshen up. He said I could do it myself for about $200-300 pending on what needs replacing or the shop would be about $700

Check your primary clutch buttons, especially if it goes away above idle. Doc

2 strokes dont have engine oil. its mixed w/ the gas and you should have aoil tank in the fron of the wheeler to put 2 stoke oil in. not regular engine oil.

There is oil on this particular 2 stroke, it is for the counter balancer. Look down next to the carburetor there will be a dipstick, it doesn't take much, but it is 30 weight. Doc
