The ONLY fluids the new and older 500s do not share is the Hilliary fluids, the fluids for the front diff type AWD drive is not like the twin hub type AWD drive. Tranny fluid, engine oil, coolant still the same thing. Polaris makes a new 2w-50 oil for there twin cyclinder motors now,but there singles still and always have used 0w-40.

Be careful. The front diffferentail on a 1999 - 1998 is 80W or 90W gear oil.

I have a 2000 Ranger 6x6, and use the 0-40W Synthetic from L&M Fleet and Supply, also run the Fram oil filter-#6017. Run the Polaris hub fluid which has new part#'s and is used on some other application, can't remember off the top of my head at the moment. Run Polaris gear case oil

That goes from 1996-2004 from 2004.5 and on the front diff is the NEW engagement point of the front wheel drive system not the two front hubs any longer,so they use the Polaris AWD Hillary fluid not regular gear oil anymore in the diff.
