0w-40 full synthetic ONLY. My Clymer's SP500 manual stated 10w-30 ,but they also said to take the two clutch pulleys off to remove a starter and remove the front bumper, front fenders and rad just to change the Fan! I don't believe everything I read from it any more. LOL

10w-30 LOL no wonder people had to change there cams lobs so much back then.

0w-40W sythetic for sure. I use Mobil1 (0w-40w) oil and a NAPA Filter (same as WIX). I use the Polaris brand hub and transmission fluids.

Look at a POLARIS manual - they all say 0w-40w synthetic for the engine.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE AMMASSED SO FAR:

So glad you asked that question. I have a 98 model, and I'm looking for the same info.

I found this information online, but is it true?

FRONT GEARCASE OIL
Polaris Premium Hub Drive Fluid (#2781654) [[ I FOUND THIS TO BE #2876160 & THE MANUAL SAYS #2871653 ]]
Substitutes:
Amsoil Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
Amsoil STL Shock Therapy #5
Any Type F ATF
Dextron III Trans fluid

TRANSMISSION OIL
Polaris Premium Synthetic Gearcase Lubricant (#2783602) [[I FOUND THIS TO BE #32878068 & THE MANUAL SAYS #2871478 ]]
Substitutes:
Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic Chain Case Oil (TCC)

REAR GEARCASE OIL
Polaris Premium Synthetic Gearcase Lube (or GL5 80-90 weight gear lube)
(I assume the stock fluid is #2781653, Gear Drive Fluid)
Substitutes:
Amsoil 80w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube (AGL)
Amsoil 75w-90 Severe Gear Lube (SVG)

[[ I FOUND FRONT HUBS TO BE FROM TEH MANUAL #2871654 ]]]

Are you talking about a 500? The tranny is the rear gear case its a all in one unit. The tranny fluid is both the fluid for the tranny and rear drive, there is no rear diff fluid on the 500 with IRS.

The only differences between the first SP500 in 1996 and the newest 2010 SP500 in fluids is the older ones had drive fluids for the two Hilliary's in the hubs while the new ones have it for the single Hillary in the front diff now.

If you go to a polaris dealer they will provide you with all their new fluids. The Newer models can't use the older fluids but the older models can use the newer fluids. I have a 99' 500 and changed out all the fluids with the new ones. I will have to research that the new gear fluid is. I haven't had a problem.
