Overfilling 2-cycle oil tank-false leak?
#1
I have spent the winter working on my Scrambler in the warm shop getting it ready for spring riding. I changed every fluid and replaced any worn out parts; brakes, sprockets, and chains. Sure runs good now. But while changing oil and fuel filters I noticed oil on the bottom side of the oil tank that dripped it's way dowm the brake line. Brake fluid is clear when new, this oil was blueish in color. Is my tank leaking or did I overfill the tank and it ran out the overflow making a mess?

I have had the the same issue with my Polaris snowmobile. I too thought I had a leak. Cleaned things up real well and observed for a while. In my case it appears to be just a case of overfilling. I never top it off anymore and don't seem to have any problems.
The only real way to figure it out is clean things up very carefully, then keep watching it.
Good Luck!
