'03 Sportsman 700 wires pulled out of front diff cover
First time poster, so go easy on me!
I have a 2003 Sportsman 700 and the AWD wouldn't engage. I had it looked at and found out that the wires going into the front differential gearcase cover had been yanked out (no idea how). The wires pulled off the coil and destroyed the coil. I was originally told that the coil had to be purchased as a "cover plate assembly" and was $298 for the part. While that sucks, I have to have AWD because it's how I plow my driveway and I gave the go ahead to order. Turns out that while that assembly was apparently available on its own a couple of months ago, it is no longer sold as the cover plate assembly. Instead, it is now superseded by a part number that is for the ENTIRE front gearcase assembly! The cost for that assembly is $894!!! I am looking at $900 plus tax and labor!
I was given several part numbers and they all refer back to each other in one way or another so I am confused on which is for the cover assembly and which is for the whole gearcase, but the part numbers are 1332670 and 3234093. I am being told that in order to replace the coil that broke, I have to replace the whole front gear assembly. This makes no sense to me.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what I should do. Is the info I was given correct? I only have 731 miles on it, but hate to spend $1200 or more on a 7 year old machine. I have tried surfing for a used one assembly, but haven't come up with any good options yet.
Thank in advance for your advice!
