I have a 2005 polaris mv7 700 and when I shift past low nothing happens in high gear. The leaver just flops forwards and backwards. Does anyone have an idea of what could be happening? I have checked the fluid and it was ok. Aswell the linkage and related parts seem to be operating properly. Thanks!

 

Yes I have a really good idea whats going on... This same thing happened to mine about 3 months ago. The black plastic cover where the shift shaft enters the transmission does not seal very well and water gets inside. This housing does not share the gearcase lube and is instead packed with grease from the factory. Underneath that cover there are two gears. The bigger gear is the drive gear and the shift shaft mates to it via splines. The second smaller gear is the driven gear and it shifts the shift forks inside the transmission. Well is what happened to mine is the water that got inside that cover ruined the splines on the shift shaft and the drive gear, plus the shift detent spring. Instead of replacing the shift shaft and drive gear I opted to weld the shift shaft to the drive gear and replaced rusted and broken detent spring. I cleaned the whole housing out with brake cleaner and repacked the thing with fresh grease and put it all back together....Note when you put it back together you will have to index the gear mesh so that you have the full shift range.
