Smile 4x4 engagement problem

2003 Sportsman 700. 4x4 switch works perfectly.............But in 2 wheel drive if you spin the rear wheels slowly as on ice, the front diff slams in and out of 4 wheel as the rear's spin???? Why is it locking one or both front wheels if the rears are spinning free. When you switch it into 4 wheel drive, it goes in and stays in without probs.

Help please.

Try changing the Hilliary,s awd fluid, does that ATV have the dual hub Hilliary system or the single front diff Hilliary set up? Old or dirty fluid will can cause the awd system to have a mind of its own.

Thanks for the help.
I don't know what the Hillary's system is.. It has a front diff and two booted hubs with individ. drive shafts. Are you suggesting changing the front diff fluid?

your bike has the hillard fornt end w/ the roller cage set up and no hubs. you would be changing the fluid in the front end. if your front end is slaming into awd, you will be replacing the roller cage for sure as it breaks easily if your wheels are spinning and the awd engages. imo

On the newer single locking front diff system the diff oil is the Polaris Hillary awd fluid (not regular diff gear oil) on the locking hub system the awd fliud goes in both front hubs but the diff takes normal gear oil. Sounds like you have the locking diff set up so make sure you buy the right awd fluid because the locking hub fluid is different.
