Default ATV Tire Changer

I did the same thing a couple years ago so I would be able to change/fix tires on ATV trips. Only had to use it once, but it paid for itself then.

Small enough to take with me and mount on the ATV trailer if needed, large enough to do 14 inch trailer tires if needed while camping. It cost $56, almost the same cost as having them mounted. I looked at spoons but a good set cost $20 or $30.

The trick method mentioned in post#9 is remarkably simple. There are many videos on you tube demonstrating the process. I would review those before making up your mind.

Use a second vehicle to break the bead. It is a lot easier with two people, but all you need to do is lay the tire down and then drive a car or truck onto it. It's best to stand out and adjust the tire while someone else drives onto it slowly as you need to be very close to the rim but not hit it. If it doesn't break the bead, one or two good stomps on the exposed part of the tire will usually get it to let go. Then have the other person back off, flip it over, and do the same for the other side. Sometimes its helpful to lay a board down on top of the tire you are breaking down and then drive onto the board like a ramp. Like a 2x8 or 2x12 just for a less forgiving surface. This is about the second easiest way I have found to breaking them down. The first being the bead breaker on a tire machine.

Our near by Tire shop charges $10 per tire so I never really was interested in trying.
