I have a 88 trail boss that I am replacing the front outer cv joint. I read the sticky and got some good info. The problem I have is that there is no place to put my circlip like it shows in the sticky thread. It is tapered instead of a groove. There is a groove on the back side of the race but it doesn't match up with the groove on my shaft. Where does the clip go? Should I install it without a circlip? I tried taking out the ***** and flipping over the race but it won't go back together that way. It seems it will onlyl let the ***** go in one way. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

 

i'm not sure about the older model bikes, but it should only go together one way and not the other becuase of the design.
