Smile Does Polaris make a true 4x4

Does anyone know if Polaris makes a true 4x4 quad, or are all of their quads AWD? Does anyone prefer the 4x4xover AWD? I have alwas raced and I am enjoying my first Sportsman, but I was currious.

To answer your fist question is no Polaris does not make a "True 4x4" but once the 4x4 on a Popo is engaged (Rear tire must slip 1/4 to 1 full turn) it is as good as any. With that said I prefer a selectable 4x4 like the one found on a Grizz as I choose when its engaged. A machine with limited slip can only predict what it is doing and not what is about to come!

yes polaris is real live 4 wheel drive when you hit the switch. the newer brand X'rs have 3 wheel drive with a differential lock. 3 wheel drive is ok, but a bad stuck and you need all four pulling to get you out.

The Polaris system is seamless. You put it in 4wd and both front tires will pull if the rears move more than 1/5 turn over what the fronts are doing. It is not harsh or anything like that. I've never had problems in mud, snow, deep water, ice, or over large rocks. Pulls like a champ.

I had the Polaris AWD, and it was very good (until it broke for no reason). LOL

So far, I really, really, really like my new 4X4 with a true locker with the EPS... especially where we ride... which has a lot to do with ones personal preference.

the polaris is a a true locked 4 wheel drive system....it automatically mechanically engages as soon as the rear wheels try to turn faster then the front wheels. it is seemeless without delay. Since the 4 wheel drive is not active if the rear wheels arnt slipping you dont get the down sides of traditional 4wd of heavy steering when engaged. You can leave it in awd and forget about it if you wish. No difference until the rear wheels slip. The best setup for an atv IMO with the sudden changes in trail conditons. Dont have to worry if you locked your front diff before you go into a hole, it already is..

I prefer AWD to 4X4 in most situations. The only time I'd like a selctive 4WD is for rock crawling, which I don't do alot of anyways.

Rick,

I had nothing but trouble with the machine. When AWD went with less than 500 miles on it, I had enough. Especially after taking meticulous care of it.

The ring gear was 4 thousands over causing it to engage/disengage when it should have stayed engaged. Mechanic said it had to be bad from the factory... Polaris said no extended warranty...tough... I said never Polaris again.

I love the EPS... won't have another quad without it. I can leave it in 4WD, and it steers easy, and smooth... not sloppy.
