Now wouldn't it be easier to have a rear mounted winch so you can pull yourself backwards from them really deep holes? Of course, if you wanted to go through said hole just back up to it winch first

Damn, I'm smart!!

theres no way that would work if you were stuck with a wheeler unless u had over a 100 of line for it to be practical. 50' ud be S.O.L. and evon if you could get it to work youd be adjusting it all the time. way to much work. yes it work. but wow!!!! if you plan to get stuck. or u get stuck alot your best bet would be to make it so the winch can be removed from the front and hooked to the rear. or make it so you could add one to the rear but make it so you could only use one at a time.

I like your idea gaspumpcity. I have just thrown the cable under the wheelr a couple of times with good success. But I think I am going to do something along your line.

Gas, I did not see any of these links before. Went away for the weekend and missed the rest of these posts. So the deal with the Jeep in the link above is very cool. It's not that complicated, and could be a life saver if you're alone and stuck. Yes, it's a lot of ****** blocks and rope. I guess it depends on how paranoid you are and how often you travel alone. I don't ride alone that much anymore (safety reasons only), so it's not worth it for me.....But very cool none the less. Riding "alone" to me means one ATV with one person on it, and two-up I also considered alone. There's a lot of factors though....cell access, distance to roads, etc.

Might be worth keeping a section of Amsteel or similar syn. rope in the rig for recoveries like this. Just knowing how to configure it is good knowledge anyway you look at it.

It's a fun topic for sure. I see incorrect winching all the time. Good thing ATVs are a lot easier to get out than a stuck monster Jeep.

Forget about the drawing and look at my pictures of the single pulley! I will remove this pulley from my TOOL BOX and bolt it to the front of my machine when I get STUCK (if I ever do) and then the winch will pull the machine backwards Im only talking about pulling 2-4 feet. Sure it could be messy in the mud or snow but it was a cheap trick for me. I have a video that I made but I cant seem to link it to this forum (I will keep trying) all I can say It works

Some of the coolest winching I've seen yet! Better than the warn on guys Fisher's ATV world 4 sure! I like the fairlead concept bolted to the front best, cuz of the lower profile, But how would we keep the fairlead clean as to not wreak havoc on the synthetic line that most of us are using nowadays? HMMMM, another mystery to be solved! Sorry bout that last statement, my sons watching scooby-doo as I'm typing this! LOL!

I always wonder how this winch would work: Pure Polaris : Polaris 1,500 LB. Versawinch?)

Funny how all those demo’s using multiple ****** blocks and anchor points are on flat ground. Try locating all those trees in the proper place when you are actually stuck.
I don’t carry a lot of extra ****** blocks. I use a Reversaroller, which lets me winch backwards with my front mounted winch using only one anchor point to the rear. Nice thing about this is I can also use my front mounted winch with Reversaroller to lower myself down a steep incline or even assist someone behind me.
Reversaroller makes a roller fairlead with a 5th roller bracket on it already. They also have extension arms that attach with a quick release pin that help your cable or synthetic rope clear the under carriage of your ATV. The fifth roller bracket remains attached to the ATV, but the extension arms are removable so nothing is hanging down during normal use of the ATV. Don’t forget a rear link to keep your ATV from flipping over when you try to winch it.
I’m not sure how the pulley works as there are no images showing up on this site at this time. It would seem he is probably using it like the 5th roller on the Reversaroller system.
