I e-mailed polaris about 5 days ago, but no response. I thought I heard on this forum that polaris was aware of the problem and they re-designed a different shaft for the 2001's. I think someone said it is tapered and not a "strait cut" where it reduces down where the shifter is attached to. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Any ideas on what caused your stator to go bad?

Dusty
I dont have a clue what caused the stator to go bad. I still have the old one, maybe I could uncover the bad coil and see if its burnt or just a wire broken.

soupcan,
The replacement shaft I got does have a tapered cut, supposedly this makes it stronger than a square cut.

carbonblack,
did Polaris cover it as a defective part? If so, maybe I could get my money back for the shift shaft I bought for mine.

He hasn't posted anything on the forum in 18 years. I don't think he's still around.
