Ricochet makes a really nice set of skids for the XP's. you can get them direct from Ricochet or you can save a few $$$ by calling AtvOutfitters.

They come with a plastic skid over the steel frame and negligible a-arm protection.

The previous gen sportsmans definetly had a nice factory skid plate setup, we didn't need anything extra. I like to ride rocky terrain so the Ricochets were the right answer on the new machine...... a requirement no, a nice option heck yeah.

Thanks guys for the answers, Skid plates is something I'm considering later on but in the meantime wasn't sure who sold them or where to look. Plus I hadn't heard a lot of talk about them on the XP models.

I agree Ricochet does make a good skid plate, I got a set from Ricochet direct but my buddy got a set at Rocky Mountain ATV for a little cheaper either way they are worth the money if you are going to be riding in rocky terrain.

Here is a link to a thread I started a while back about protection for XP's. I ended up getting the nerf bars on line and really like them
