Default 2009 XP 850 dies suddenly

In very low speed coming to a stop, the machine died three times (once in reverse coming to a stop). Happened last weekend and I cannot remember if the display stayed on or if it it completely cut off........which I know that would help in diagnosing.... .....ran fine after it happened but died three times on separate occasions.

Anyone else have this problem? Maybe loose connection somewhere?

Check your battery terminals... my buddy's 850 died on us on the trail about 3 months after he got it, and it ended up being a loose positive side connection on the battery.

Yep on what he said. I had the same problem and it was the battery cables.

I don't know if this is an issue with the xp's- but if you have any other keys hanging off your ring- that might be stalling it.
I didn't believe it when I read it also on the forum- then 2 days ago I put a pad lock key on the ring- just one key, and my 06 800 sp kept stalling while putting around the trails.
I removed the key and it stopped stalling.

I don't know if it gets stuck on the gas cap while turning the bars or what, but it stalled my bike 3 times!
If I remember correctly though, the xp gas cap is up on the fender? So this might not be the problem.

Nope, the XP will still shut itself off if there's a dealer's doo-dad or another key on the key ring for the ignition and you pull from hard left to hard right. Pulled the dealer thingy off my key ring for the XP after it did it once... when the quad had about 5 miles on it.

check the throttle position, i had a 08 polaris dragon snowmobile. started doing the same exact thing. took it to dealer and that was it , he adjusted it by the cable, part way down the cable youll see what looks like a lump in the cable, separate the to halves and youll see it. also look in your owners manual, i believe it show u where it is and how to adjust

Yep on that. Some of the early XP's did need the throttle cable adjusted, or they would stall sometimes when you let off the throttle quickly. On the 850 the "lump" in the cable is about 4" away from the housing. Might be the problem too.

Mine does this exact same thing. Its only happened a few times on different rides but it has happened. Put your display on RPM and watch as the bike begins to idle. If it drops below the spec then you should adj. it a little higher.
The procedure is covered in the manual by adj. the throttle position on the cable as others has suggested.

Put a new lock-washer and some lock-tite on both your negative and positive battery terminals.
