#1
its clicking when i try to start it.. I done the solenoid jump test and still no start the battery is good because i had it tested yesterday. It was pull starting fine, but today i tried to pull start it and the rope just pulls out and goes back in like its not catching?? i tried it about 10 times and 2 of the times it actually caught and tried to start i just didn't have enuff pull on the rope or it would have started. Im getting really ticked off about it...not sure what to do or what the issue would be any ideas?? can i fix myself or should i take it to a shop? I don't want to dump a bunch of money it it but i want to ride it!! grr please help

My 2000 Sportsman did that awhile ago. Turned out to be a bad starter. Good battery, solenoid clicked and nothing else. Took the starter out and jumped it with a battery...if I tapped the starter real good, it would turn over. Picked up a new starter off amazon from DB Electric for 60 buxs. They also have a hassle free warranty in the event you need to do a warranty. I had to once and they were great. Not sure about the exporler but despite what the manual says for my sportsman, you CAN get the starter out with the clutch still ON.
I'd pull your recoil apart, sounds like the pawl gear isn't grabbing all the time. Make sure you look at it good as I had to replace the internals (plastic recoil that holds the rope, pawl gear, springs, and rope/handle) on my wifes sportsman...$150 for everything. Take good care of it as that year machine is notorious for getting water in the recoil via the handle.
