Default 05 Sportsman 400 cv boot

I am trying to replace the cv boot. I got everything apart but I can not get the joint or shaft apart so I can finish taking the cv boot off. I have yanked on it. I have beat on it with a rubber mallet but nothing will move it. Any ideas as to how I can get it off?

Which joint are you trying to take off? Inner or outer? Is this the front ot rear axle?

There are 2 locking rings, the first big 1 is easy to see but the 2nd holding the nut on the splines gets covered with grease and for me is always the hardest part. If the 2nd ring is the problem you need to hold it, expand it, out of the groove and then tap the nut off.

i think it's the one w/ the insde c clip that is hard to see w/ all the grease. once the snap ring is out of the groove it slides right off the spine.

why would you want to take the ***** out of the joint as you cant replace them or least you couldn't awhile ago. can't remember but i thought it was the front that had the inside ring(i used to have picture of it) and thoiught the back didn't? back when i did a few you couldn't get replace ment parts for them and once the chrome started peeling they started clicking. guess you learn some things new all the time.

When I rip a boot I take the CV totally apart and clean out the old grease and any dirt before putting the new grease in and boot on. The ***** roll off the table and all over the floor sometimes while doing it. LOL

Your right they do not make replacement parts for CV even though they do come apart and go back together. I think its a scam myself.
