Default 2000 Xplorer Troubleshooting

I just got my 2000 Xplorer 400 4x4 out from being stored for about a year. It started with the pull starter and ran fine right from the get go. After I installed a new battery the electric start was ready to go but the only lights that come on on the controls is the small red dot on the ignition switch. None of the gears light up and neither does my AWD when turned on. All lights work,low/high/brake. Also the four wheel drive in it started acting up recently. Just when I went to take a mud hole last week the axle turns but the wheels don't. I haven't really done any checking and guessing yet so I thought you guys may have some info before I go tearing into the hubs, like maybe its just bad wiring or something. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would bet when you started it with a bad battery you blew all the bulbs including the AWD light(which has to work to complete the circuit)

Correct. On those older models sometimes they will fry every single light bulb that is on when you start it with a dead battery.

thanks guys, i'll have to replace those indicator bulbs then. but would this have anything to do with the AWD switch, therefore not letting my AWD engage?

The AWD bulb must work for power to go to the front hubs.

You sure on that? When I bought my 2001 500H.O four years ago,it needed a battery, I rode the ATV for 3 weeks with a dead battery before getting around to buying a new battery. The ATV worked normally except I had to use the pull start.

It depends on how the battery is bad.If it has a shorted cell or any dead short it will cause a power surge from the stator and blow the bulbs.
