The Fiji motor are dry sump motors, it suppose to gain more Hp with the crank not churning up so much oil like on a wet sump motor, also the oil is cooled down as the oil tank acts as a large oil cooler.

i had the ext oil tank on my air cooled 2000 sp 335. 7000miles when i sold it. never checked the screen or drained the crank. just filter and oil i did 2 times a yr. never had an issue. sold it with out any engine issues. i also do the same on my 08. oil filter thats it........ not worth the extra time. over kill. thats what a filter is for. i can maybe see it if you for some reason got something in there. but other than that. NO

I always thought that a dry sump like we have on the scrambler is used when the engine is going to be run on anything but flat ground or sharp turns (track). Oil in the bottom of the motor is fine on flat ground. You always have oil at the pickup. When you are off-camber on steep hills or anything like that the oil runs away from the pickup and you can starve the engine of oil and do damage. On a dry sump there is always oil flow no matter the angle. Except maybe upside down
Just my .02 worth

I agree. Do not waste your time with the screen. As long as you change the oil between 50 and 100 hours of operation, there is no need to do this. Absolute pain in the *** to do this. I have had Sportsman 500s since 2001 and I have hundreds and hundreds of hours on my machines.

OK ill bite,WHY?
Ive used POLARIS oils for over 10 years,[and i own 4 atvs]each machine exceeds well over 100 hours each year.Have never had an oil related oil issue ,or a machine that ever used any.My 00 magnum ran like new when i traded up,and my daughter is still running my 02,still perfoms like new.Iam really curious to know why,not being a smart aleck,or trying to say mines better than yours or something. What was your bad experience?

Most of the OEM air filters are junk... but a nice profit for the dealer and the ATV manufacturer.

I've seen UOA's on the Polaris oil (the older 0W-40) it wasn't great, but it wasn't that bad either. Now, I wouldn't use the new Polaris 0W-50 (or whatever they call it) in extremely cold weather. It's poor point is not very good, and no where near as good as the older (0W-50).

if u do research on air filters as far as comparing them, foam filters are the best filtering material used and they still let particles in, understand this is at the micron level, then the paper filter is after that, and then filters like a kn filter are the worst, but that all depends on maintenance of the filter, if you clean them regularly, than there just as good as the rest.
