99 Sportsman transmission fluid ?
Found my answer I`ll wait for Polaris to open, No Delete button so I can`t "edit Delete"
I have a book somewhere but after an hour looking I thought it would just be easier to ask here. My quad has been out in the below freezing for the last 2 months and I couldn`t get it to shift. I had to rev it up for a few minutes in neutral before i could get it to shift so I`m thinking there must be water in the tranny. I want to change the fluid but can`t find my book to see what gets put back in there. What fluid does it take? If it takes a Polaris brand is there any other compatible brands as i`m close to a auto parts store and don`t know when polaris of reopen from the holidays.
99 Sportsman 500. Thanks Randy

Polaris brand is agl or demand drive, I use 5w-30 Castrol Syntec in the engines and tranny's on about15 different polaris machines have had exellent results and zero problems, I service several machines for ranchers here Wyoming, as well as use it in my own machies and have used it for years

Thanks Kerbbirds.
Here in Canada I`m sure our temps get a bit colder so polaris asks for 0w-30 Synthetic to be used in the motors. We have a parts store here called Canadian Tire and for the most part they sell a wide verity of everything I`m going to go there and look for some amsoil synthetic chain case oil if they don`t have it I`ll just hit the polaris steelership and get some AGL I was hoping there was going to be a wider range of comparable fluids.

As it turns out it wasn`t my tranny freezing and making it impassable to shift between the gears. Today I noticed the 5 allen bolts on my shifter housing was loose, so I took it all apart only to find it was full of ice. Next step was the old heat gun to warm everything up and soak up all the water in there I also noticed that someone had used silicone before to seal the top housing to the bottom my guess is they never tightened it up as required. I`m not sure what kind of lubricant should be used in there so I put some 0-40 synthetic motor oil in thinking its better than nothing. Now the quad seems to be shifting as it should. I did get the synthetic chain case oil for the tranny to change it but now I`ll wait for the warmer weather to do it because all I have for a work place is a 8X10 shed thats full of tools, crap and garden stuff so space is limited.
Also this week I picked up some symtec duel zone heated grips can`t wait to try them out.
Thanks for all the help guys I wish I could find my book LOL.
