Unhappy 97' Xplorer 500 Carb pulling away from motor

I have a 97' Polaris Xplorer 500 and since I pulled the carburateur off and put a new needle and cleaned it I have had troubles with it being too far away from the motor adapter so twice now it's pulled away from the motor causing it to die. I pulled the rubber mounts and tried to push the carb closer inside the rubber motor adapter and it doesn't go in as far as the groove. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Should I try sliding the whole motor back?

Get the carb into the motor side first and hose clamp it tight, then fool with the tube between the air box and carb instead. The airbox tube is long enough to have room to slide back and forth between the airbox and carb.

ummm- tighten the carb intake boot???

or- make sure your filter box is installed properly, allowing the carb to seat in the boot in the first place.

I've seen that several times on older 500's. Take about 1/8 inch thick of washers and get some longer screws(the screws that hold the carb to the bracket that is mounted to the frame) Put the longer screws in with the washers between the bracket and the carb and it will quit popping out of the boot.

That is correct. This is a common problem and he just told you the correct fix.
