Just got a 98 Sportsman, and I was looking under the front panel...

The wiring panel is a rats nest of wires. There is no cover over it and it's covered in mud that came up from underneath.

Is there supposed to be a cover for this? I'm kind of wondering if someone tore the whole thing apart and didn't take the time to make the wiring look pretty again. Everything works, but it's annoying.

I can't imagine it came without some sort of cover or shielding to prevent water/mud infiltration. Can someone post a pic of their 98-99 wiring box?

 

as long as eveything works buy some electric-sollvent and clean it up, then you can keep it clean , probably never been touched in 13 years

 

Yeah, I just picked up a 95' 300 4x4. It needed some love so I'm pulling it apart and was DUMBFOUNDED by the "rats nest" under the cowl.. Seriously this looks rediculous.

my 97 looks like a blind drunk monkey wired it.I guess thats wht they cost less than the competetors

 

Isn't there supposed to be some sort of cover over the terminal block? It didn't look like there used to be one. I can't imagine they just left it out in the open like that.

 

The 97 ,maybe 98 had different wiring under the nose cover with with a bunch of fuses on a panel,it was changed to a single main breaker switch in 99 I think.
