Default 400 2-stroke crankpin and bearing replacement

I am in the process of rebuilding my old 1994 400L Trailboss engine and need some guidance. After tearing down the engine I noticed that the crank pin bearing is bad. I ordered a new Hot Rods connecting rod kit and need some advice as to how to seperate the crank and then to reinstall the new crank pin and bearing in the proper allignment!! Is this do-able for a shade tree like myself, or do I need to take it to a machine shop! Is heat needed or just a hydraulic press, or both. Help!!!

You need a press and a trueing stand and dial indicator to get the crank within .001 run out. Simply having a press wont guarantee you can true it up,even if you scribe lines on each crank half and try to line back up! I used the scribed lines to help get CLOSE as I could and then had to true up by whacking one crank half up or down on the stand Sometimes takes a little time. Best to let a dealer or machine shop do it right! Hope this helps OPT
