Default 06 sportsmen 500 HO just clicks but no start

Thought it was the battery but that wasnt it. lights and console both work. When i try to start it all i hear is the clicks from the starter solenoid but thatch it. no whine of the starter. is there a test i can do to rule out the starter solenoid, like connecting one end of the jumper cable to the pos lead of the battery and the other end to the starter terminal? or do the clicks indicate it working.

Thanks

need a multi meter, check battery voltage , take red lead of meterto t6he selenoid, same side as red battery cable , black lead to battery ground, voltage should be the same as battery, now take red lead to other side of selenoid and turn the key if voltage is the same as battery again selenoid is good, get a long screw driver and a hammer, have someone turn the key to start machine , hit starter with the screw driver and hanmmer, if starter engages the starter is bad

make you have 100% battery charge, good soild connections w/ no corrosion. w/ the key on jump the 2 big cables on the solenoid and if the starter turns then it's the solenoid. if not then most likely the starter is the issue.

Well i removed the starter cable from the selenoid and touched it to the positive of the battery and nothing at all happened at the starter, no sound, no movement all. i dont think i can get the starter out.

it looks like a major job.
Whats the trick?

Thanks,

Ya i hit it while trying to start it, no difference. The cable is tightened down pretty good. not loose at all.
Its kind of weird because i never really had a problem with it before.

I changed the bendix a few months ago as it was not throwing out and engaging the flyweel. When i inspected the old one it showed real signs of wear and tear with some corrosion. but ever since the new bendix went in it everything started right up, until now.

Do starters just go bad.

Anything can just go bad and you don't know why.
