Default Hillard Cluthes in Pieces

I have a 99 400 scrambler that I have had going for about a month, The 4 wheel drive was working fine for most of the time, except for occasionaly when not in 4x4 one wheel would grab and clunk, so I just mostly left it in 4x4 to avoid this. I have learned that this was probably due to needing a new armature plate.

Now I kind of took it on its first longer trip in deep snow, and when I started out every thing was working fine, then suddenly the 4x4 started acting terrible, with both wheels jerking in and and out of 4x4, the only thing I can think of is that I tested it in about a foot of water to see if everything was sealed. It seemed as if something had maybe happened then.

Also we were driving at night and the headlights were working fine the entire time so I figure it was not electrical, but then the next day I did notice that the battery was weak and would not turn the engine over to pull it into the garage.

Now I pulled both sides apart and both clutches were in pieces (lots of pieces) and I have not found a thread relating to this. Mosty just the armature plate and axles breaking, not the clutch.

My plan is to check the voltage out put, but I don't want to spend big bucks fixing this just to have this happen again. I would apreciate any advice.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

No oil is what usually blows the clutches. They get hot and the garter spring breaks.
