it's a utility 4x4, not a sport quad-

That's like posting "what can I do to make my 87 f-150 keep up with my bro's corvette"

no its not like that comparison at all all I need is about 5-7 MPH faster or a faster throttle resoponse or both to be able to keep with him on the trails we have been riding

If he's keeping up or pulling ahead of you switch trails. Drag him through some mud, over some nice big rocks.

And at the end of the day, after you've pulled his broken quad back to camp, you can talk him in to a utility quad.

Seriously. If you're worried about keeping up anything other than underwear while you're riding, you're probably missing out on some good riding.

I know Maserati had a 4x4 vehicle in the makings about 8 years ago. Don't know if they ever officially made it or not. Was more like a luxury suv with 4wd.

Funny thing was the name they gave it. Kubang.

Not sure if that translates to something in english, or that's the sound it makes when you hit that first really big rock.

well my 96 sportsman 400, same quad as a my 95 xplorer. yes both straight axles. someone mentioned it wasn't.
Anyway the 96 will creep up on 50 mph. but ran that speedo against some other polaris's and a 700 grizz. most speedos are optimistic compared to a gps. but this 96 sportsman seems a little the other way. My xplorer when stock would creep up on 60 mph.
On a gps i'm quessing in the 52-53 mph range.
