I agree though that two has more chance to fail then one but "one" is also cheaper to manufacture then "two".

But if both are working fine I think the single will pop a nut before the twins if both systems get pushed to the extremes.

No roller cage failure posts on the old setup but endless posts of the new style not holding up it seems.
Yes the theory sounds good, but I was in TWO wheel mode and in Hi range and yet I almost got thrown from the machine because the right side armature plate decided to allow it to engage! I'm not disputing you on the centralized, but this was flat azz disturbing for this old man! Granted like I said previously, maintenance has 99 percent to do with it for the most part, but after that if one was was brought in for kicking in awd on one side even if awd was off,I would always replace BOTH plates, check out the system and "try' to educate the customers(some of our "red necks" you couldn't) about regular hub fluid changes and to keep a check on any seal leakage around the hubs and struts. Again NOT trying to argue with anyone on the forum,JUST trying to show some of the things that can happen! If it scares some on the forum into taking better care of their atvs, then its well worth it so no one can get hurt needlessly! OPT

I don't know anything about these problems because both my 2002 500's have over 3000 miles and have been great. I read about problems with the 850 and ours with 1400 miles has also been trouble free I just hate the OME tires..

You probably WON'T have problems if you change the hub fluid regularly. If you notice any pulling to one side, especially when you first start it up and take off and have to back up to unlock the hub, then are able to go forward, then I would first change the fluid and see if it stops this. IF not, then I would tear into the hubs and replace the armature plates (probably magnetized or starting to) and check the bearings and hilliards. Armature plates are CHEAP (about 10-12 bucks each) compared to a possible wreck to the atv or injury to you or someone else. I admit my "little" ordeal was out of the ordinary, but it made me think twice about those "little" cheap replaceable armature plates! OPT

He's also throwing in another 12" set of rims and tires off a newer Polaris that someone gave him that he won't have any use for. He doesnt know what he has nor does he know much about the Polarises. I spent a lot of time running through it and looking underneith and I actually believe the hours are accurate. Need to do a little work on the rack and bumper from a previous yard mishap way back when... other than that I think I'll be good. Thanks for everyone's opinions and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Oh and I thought mine shifted and was smooth... I've never driven one like this, I guess it's was sold people on them 10+ years ago.
When I bough my ATV the Hall Effect sensor was shot so only the hour meter worked on the speedo, the way I knew the miles where low was the ATV had the stock 6 ply "Goodyear P Trackers" and they looked like new. Chance of someone buying P Trackers as a replacement tire is very slim.

Remington Edition if I remember was camouflaged and came stock with hand and thumb warmers and a winch?
