Default 500 EFI starting issue

Just got an 07' Sp500 EFI with 1100 miles. When cold is it normal for these to crank over a couple seconds before starting? I thought efi would be instant like most vehicles today. It's my 1st efi on a quad so just wondering.

if its cold they still will crank over a few times before running. The EFI advantage is you do not have to stand there baby sitting a choke while the motor warms up.

Remember you still should let the motor warm up. A EFI does not warm up the motor oil any faster than a carb. It will start and go on a cold day but running a cold motor before warming up the oil is not good, EFI or Carb.

It takes a few seconds while tuning the engine over for the crank sensor to send a signal to the ecm and also goes automatically into a "waste fuel, waste spark" rich mode for a few seconds after cranking until the map sensor responds properly and then maintains an even idle. This is a normal feature of this model. As stated before, it's normal. My 07 is the same way. You'll like the added benefit of the EFI when it comes to cold weather.

Thanks guys. this is my 1st efi. 3rd Sportsman. I still think it turns sharper than my 06 500 but maybe my 06 did'nt turn as it should. After I owned it a few weeks I noticed the frame was slightly 'tweaked' (or bent) in the front. Nothing in steering seemed damaged so I never thought anymore of it.
