OK did everything as instructed tonight. Think I might just punt and take it to a service center.

Thanks for all your help, will post once I know what it is.

Default hawkeye 300

Hi Guys i just got a 2007 had 197 miles on it. Thew question i have is why does the side covers get so hot even only after a few miles and say 30 min.
the recoil cover gets so hot hard to touch it. the left side get hot to touch also. I stopped at a dealer today and asked they couldnt figure why it would get that hot.
any thoughts
thanks

Welcome to the forum! Most of the heating problems on the Hawkeye in my opinion is the front mudguards and how they almost cover up any good air flow to the engine. Its also one of the hardest atvs to change oil filters (imo) because you have to reach under and up to get to it! I noticed the heat riding every time I serviced or repaired one. Not sure what you can do other than try to trim the bulky front mudguards to allow more air circulation! Plus both the exhaust pipe and the metal clutch cover on the left side doesn't help matters either! OPT
