Default Turf mode on an '08 SP 500 (non-X2/ATP)

Saw this CL ad for an '08 SP 500 that mentions having turf mode. I asked the poster and he indicated it was a factory option. I thought turf mode was only available on the X2/ATP models? Note that I am not 100% confident in his response.

Was this a factory option on these?

That looks like the deluxe model I had and there was no turf mode on it, and I never heard of it being optional.

I also don't remember Turf Mode ever being offered on anything other than the X2, the ATP, and the Touring models, quad-wise. I think the Ranger line up may have it but don't think the RZR has it. It would require a new rear differential. The one on the ATP we had and on the X2 I still have was a Spicer unit.

Looks like a good deal on the SP 2008.....Turf or not. I think the Turf was dropped on the Tourings in 2010......don't know about the UTV's. Since we're talkin' Turf..... OPT, .....how's the Turf diff comared to the regular Sportsman as in durability, dependable, ease of repair, etc.....

Never really had any problems mechanically with them only the owners!! Had a couple of ATP customers come in and complain about how they jerked when turning on hard pack or concrete and the first thing I would do was look at where they had the switch set and both were in turf mode! I TRIED to explain how this system worked and when in turf mode was designed to pull with one wheel to keep from tearing up grass, etc and on hard pack to take it out turf mode and keep in 2wd and awd when needed. Think we replace a solenoid on a Ranger?? Thats all I remember on any sort of problem. Dana Spicer supplied em and if they are good enough for cars and trucks, their good enough for Polaris! OPT
