don't know- no 4 strokes around- (maybe one of every 20) but they were not complaining about 4 stroke bikes- they were complaining about noise & smell of the 2 stroke bikes-

I'd take the low tone & db of 4s any day over the noise 2s noise.
put the stock pipe back on the 300 ex- bye bye head ache.

well you're the type of the guy that'll buy into whatever is "current". and that 300ex was gone umpteen years ago so maybe you can tell the guy that has it now to the restritive stock pipe back on. i dont care if you dont like 2 stroke "noise" but it does not echo and carry like an obnoxious fart bag four stroke sound

Track's neighbors enjoy quiet summer (Uxbridge MX - MASS)

I went to these meetings- my house is 2 miles from this track by way the crow flies, even I could hear the buzz some days if I was outside.
The biggest complaint from other locals was "the high pitched buzzing sound drives me crazy"

4 strokes don't make high pitched buzzing sounds- they make low db tones (not that would've mattered- they didn't want to hear anything).
The owner of the track even kicked around the idea of making it a dedicated atv track to reduce the dirt bike noise- they wouldn't entertain the notion.

Busy afternoon yesterday.

Ok, let me try to make this clear. I didn't say two stroke are dinosaurs. But someone did say something about 80's technology. The reference I made to that was look at the banshee. It's still the same basic technology. So they're not using anything new.

I also used an actual article written by the EPA, and posted in the AMA website. I see others want to reference magazines. So I've posted facts, while I see others posting reference to a writers subjective opinion. Which if we're just posting magazine articles make this one relevant.

If you don't believe the EPA has the power to do something like this, ask someone from California about plovers.

And I'd also like to add, pizza pizza pizza.

I just came in a few minutes ago- was at my neighbors house, he has a bone stock kx125- I heard it running so I jumped on my stock 650 outty and headed on over-
you couldn't even hear my 650 running over the ding da ding ding ding da ding of the 2 stroke.
So I told him to give it some gas, and I brought my rpm's up to 3k- if not for the vibration of the 650 running- you'd never know it was running- all I could hear and smell was that kx 125.

there's nothing anyone can say to convince me that a stock 2 stroke is quieter then a stock 4 stroke- be it 20 feet away, or 2000' in the woods.
The only time a 4 stroke is louder, is when it has an obnoxious aftermarket pipe on it- that's just the way it is.

KTM seems to be on the cutting edge of 2-stroke design-

I also googled "epa & 2-stroke" last night, report after report on how much 2 strokes contribute to noise & chemical pollution over a 4 stroke. There's even a 400 page report on it at the epa web site- You want facts, go to the epa web site; you want opinions, read a magazine.

Guess that's about all I have to say on that matter.

you are comparing the sound output from a motocross bike to a utility quad? yeah thats real fair... i dont care what you say, 4 stroke noise "echos" and carries further and is the very reason tracks are closing. you can read your epa crap... i trust them about as much as i trust the government. i bet though that if 2 strokes were the new big thing, beer guy would be the 1st in line.

nope- would never buy a 2 stroke anything ever again.

2 strokes are being banned all around over here on lakes, trails and even in some HOA neighbor hoods (no 2 stroke saws, mowers...)

sportsshemaleex- your entire argument is moot-

you challengs me on comparing a stock 2s mx bike to a stock 4s- then say "who keeps a stock pipe on an mx bike"????

why not just say running a 2hp 4s lawn mower with no muffler on it is louder then a 2 stroke then.

It appears the only time a 2s bike is quieter then any 4 stroke, is when the 4s has an aftermarket pipe, the 2s has a stock pipe, and it can only be compared to the same style machine- you conjure up an awful lot of stipulations to make a point.

you're backing yourself into a corner again-

you remind me of a lap dog the way you run your mouth-
all you can seem to do is insult everyone who has a different opinion.

why is it everyone else is immature- when you're the only one who continues to insult???
