That was at the beginning of the 4 stroke craze (or take over) .. Back then MX'ers were in the 99 db range... as 4 strokes took over that same 99db was heard farther away... Now the AMA is in the 93 db range and tracks are not closing as quick..

Its too bad Service Honda doesnt put a CR500 engine in a 450 frame..

I got a apples and oranges story of my own..


My KTM 400 checks about 91db... I ride a lot with my sons and their friends..most ride 2 strokes in the 97-100 db range... I can sneak up on and pass any of them in the woods.. they tell me they never even knew I was there until I go by..

Don't know how many times I've heard this same statement from the riders out of our shop! Plus sounds like you already know which bike to ride! I may be a little prejudiced on this though! Ever swing a leg over the 450 XC-W?? OPT
