Default why 2 different engines in the 04 600

Just bought a 04 600 and noticed that there are 2 different engines. Was there a half year change. The 03 600 is different than the 05 600. Jetting, timing, compression ratio and alternator output are the differences. Why did they make a change, was there some thing wrong with earlier model.

2004 was the last year the 600 Polaris was made. It was not a big seller because it barley beat out a 500 in power. so they dropped it and just made the 700s.

The 600 was only made in 2003 and 2004.

The major change in the 600 and 700 models came in 2004 when they changed the crappy Ducati ignition system to the reliable Kokusan electronics(this was the reason for the timing, alternator output and other changes) also 2004 the 700 had an efi model introduced along with the carb model. The 600 came out in 2003,had the same electrical changes as the 700,but only lasted from 2003-2005 as opposed to the 700 that lasted from the 2002-2008 models, then it was replaced by the 800 efi. The 600 just wasn't a huge seller compared to the 700 and dropped after the 2005 model.

As someone that has the '03 model, be glad that yours already has the new ignition. I just had to upgrade mine a few months ago. Also, there were a few other updates as well in the '04 Have fun with the new machine.
