sportsman 500 cam

Default sportsman 500 cam

I have a 1999 sportsman 500 that started running bad pulled cover and the cam is bad . does anyone know if all the sportsman 500 cam are the same or what years would be. would like to go back with a ho cam,thanks

If I remember correctly, a popular upgrade was using the HO cam from either a Scrambler or the HO 500 Sportsman, so it should work fine.

These cams fail because of poor quality or broken down oil. If you insist on using the Polaris crap change it at least every 40 hours.

Use a good quality synthetic oil and change it when you should and you will never have this problem again.

Bought a used 03 sportsman engine took the cam and rocker arm install on my 99 runs great what oil do most use and weight

I run Amsoil oil and Amsoil filters no problems at all with that combo 0w40 .

Some may disagree but I use Castrol Syntec 5w50. Amsoil should be even better but it is harder to find in my area.

Mobile One is also good. In fact most any good quality synthetic motor oil that you can find at Walmart or auto parts stores is as good and most of the time better than Polaris oil.

Ok i have used all of the above and have never had any problems .I bought the sportsman used so never know what has been ran in it.After i installed the new parts i put 2qts. cheap oil and a new filter going to run it for a 2-3 hour to flush the engine out then i will put good oil in it,thanks

yes the ho cam will work, need the 40mm carb and boots from an ho to make it run right
