#1
Sorry to re invent the wheel, but....
I have a 1996 polaris sportsman. I need to change the front hub oil myself. I cannot find the how to on this, and which oil to use.
Fill how full??
Thank you in advance.

Use Polaris Demand Drive Plus hub fluid. remove the 3/16" allen plug, drain the old fluid at 6 o'clock, fill at 12 o'clock position, turn to 3 or 4 o'clock position to drain the excess out. A little extra won't hurt. The manual says every 50 hrs. If you use it on a daily basis a little more often is better. Check for any seal seepage around the hub and brake rotor along with the rear of the strut housing. OPT

In a Polaris shop manual I have it lists ATF type F as a replacement fluid. I have always used that without problems. I bought a set of plastic dispensing bottles from Harbor Freight that work great for putting the fluid in.

Clymer Or Haynes manuals along with some outdated shop manuals still list Type F transmission fluid that was replace by Demand Drive hub fluid around the early 90's! You can use it and swear by it,but Demand Drive is actually thinner and from years of using both I'd drive a little further to get the hub fluid and use Type F in a pinch only! Just my old opinion again! PLUS welcome to the forum
