Thats cool,if I found a diesel motor somewhere I think I would swap out and try one of those toque monsters out,I would loose speed but I,m on slow narrow trails 90% of time anyways.

Polaris builds great ATVs, but engines?
Mostly Subaru/Fuji heavy industries or Weber.
Nothing wrong with that though, these days a lot of engine design is common effort between vehicle manufacturers.
The repair manual for the 2000 diesel ATV details even a total engine rebuild.
Not that I intend to go that far.
There are some nice SKF bearings inside the hubs,....
and they survived
Fiddled a hilliard spacer ring and put it all back together again today.
Without the rollers in the cage and the spring around the hilliard it rides just fine.
For a small 4x2 tractor that is
Now for the ultimate beach modification.
Swap the front tyres which they mounted on the rear for some cheap Carlisles and put some bald rears on the front.
So come spring its heading out towards the fishing shack.
My 2008 touring rides great and the new XPs are even better.
But this easy on the pocket fishing shack ATV will do me and the kids just fine for running up and down the beach.
4x4 conversion and suspension that works is for next year.
Mostly Subaru/Fuji heavy industries or Weber.

"Polaris build great ATV's, but engines?"
Granted,Fuji Heavy industries made some good atv engines and three great watercraft engines for Polaris(650,750,and 780) but Polaris also made their own "domestic" engines for their later model water craft such as the 700 twin ,900 and 1200 triple and the strongest part was the Elko Austrian forged pistons same as what was used in the ATK 406 and 600 along with KTM and other European bikes! Imo, the Elko is the strongest, longest lasting piston you can get! And if you ever get the chance to look at the "guts" of a Victory motorcycle you would see an oil pump capable of lubricating a small block V-8 along with engine cases about 3/8" thick that you could even jack the cycle up on! Polaris Industries can make some good domestic engines! OPT

Aaaahaa Zhé Austrian Connexion!!! pronounced in my finest german accent.
I'm a bit wary of too much US engineering.
The only GM engine I've got doesn't burn oil, it sweats oil. Still runs after 20 years, but I've given up on trying to keep it dry.
Allthough I'm gratefull for the Harley's, chevy's, dodges and Gmc's scaring the germans back to Zhé Fatherland in 1945. Well they never have been my first choice in vehicle.
To date I've mostly owned German and Japanese vehicles,....
that's gratitude for you
As of lately though I've become curious in the US ranchers truck.
Ever since I got my 2008 Polaris with auto tranny.
If the US rancher is much like the EU farmer it doesn't receive too much attention, sleeps outside and maintenance is usually breakdown-repair.
So what is the legendary US pickup truck brand that just lasts and lasts??
Only seen a few Victory motorcycles and was impressed by the looks and the engineering.
Haven't looked into any guts though.
Last I heard was that they purchased Indian motorcycles.

Now if you get us Americans on the subject of the most longest lasting, hardest working pick up truck, you will have a never ending battle of opinions, same goes for motor oil brand preference, politics or religion! There are NO clear cut winners! I'll just say Chevrolet,Dodge,Ford, GM (in alphabetical order
I'm not counting Japanese trucks made in the USA,but feel they should be mentioned, because someone will! BUT I do own a Chevy pick up with over 260,000 miles with only regular maintenance and doesn't leak a drop
