Default Xplorer counterbalance help

Is there a trick for accessing the counterbalance dipstick on a 99 Xplorer 400 4wd?

remove seat, airbox snorkel. Loosen with flat screwdriver, reach with long needle nose pliers. There is also a level plug at the front.

So you remove the upper/rubber portion of the airbox or the whole thing? If I remember correctly, the upper half looks like it is held on with some type of zip tie?

ya i looks like on a '99 you may have to remove the whole airbox.

but that seems strange for that. I'll look closer at the 2000 scrambler that's in the garage. it's below and to the recoil side of the carb. shine a light in there with the top peice off.
