Default Opt head scratcher!

hey OPT,check this out.got 2001 trailblazer.started very easy (pull twice or less than 3 seconds of electric cranking)until starter began acting up "click click"until you tapped it with hammer.ordered new starter.while waiting for shipping.wanted to ride.had heck of time starting.over 1 min. of cranking finally started and ran fine for 1 hr. of riding.shut down.week later changed starter, battery, solenoid, fuel filter, cleaned carb.starter turned over normally and finally started after cranking for at least 1 min.(as if it were flooded).ran fine for 1 hr.shut it down.now the fun part!can only start by pull start (1 easy pull)crank but no start with switch.even if you try to start less than 2 seconds after shutting down!1 easy pull only!starter sounds like it cranking engine properlychanged plug again.cleaned carb again.did exact same thing.barely have to pull once to start.but no start from cranking.p.s.last ride before problems was through much wetness and mud.let alone the power washing after.

Had this happen before on different machines. First off turn the petcock off after use (hardly anyone does )
to keep crank from filling up with fuel, even if it does have a new needle and seat, etc. The 250s were bad about this and can soften crank seals. Going through the water and washing may have something to do with it (good stator cleaning may solve this). Starter may not be turning fast enough versus the torque you can have on pull starting if the stator has any residue rust, dirt, corrosion from the water, especially around the exciter coil. Have cleaned stators before and then they would electric start normal. The older models were magneto triggered ignition and the batteries were mainly for the starter, lights, etc. Plus not a bad idea to check charging back to the battery while it's just above idle. Should be around 14 volts. OPT

105 psi ain't that good! New top end should be around 145-150 psi. Probably the main reason it pull started and didn't start with the starter. Not enough "umph" from the starter versus the recoil. Plus you can't always tell about seals just looking for any seepage. They can just start sucking air, which doesn't help either with starting. Sounds like it's time to freshen up the engine. Plus just my again on an 11 year old machine I wouldn't just do a top end on a 2 stroke. OPT

update time!again, more of the same bad newshad jug bored .020 over.new piston, rings, gaskets.now i have compression.140 ish.now the same old.eventually started (much cranking again)ran great.shut off and only re started with pull no electric.after a few times would not re start by pull either.got frustrated and quit for the day.i have fuel.i have spark.is it possible that spark is weak?half of neighbors say "yes"i say it is good.is it possible to have a weak ignition or exciter coil?i have a new ignition coil and new exciter coil.i have to try both so i can sleep at night.HELP OPT!!

Did you replace the crank seals?? Plus pull the black wire from the reverse limiter module, could be causing problems . OPT

Yes you can have a "weak spark" usually attributed to the stator area in most cases unless you have a internal break in the plug wire, intermittent ground problem, etc. You can also have your coil checked out as most good shops have coil checkers to eliminate this as a problem.

Something wrong somewhere when you say you had a new top end done and you only have 100 pounds compression now, down from an original 140 OPT
