HELP PLEASE>>> riders with polaris
#1
i am thinking about getting a polaris trailboss 325 from a friend. This is a 2000 model and it has been baby'd. Its in show room condition. Only thing I have grown up riding honda and suzuki models and recently sold a 300 ex. i know this trailboss will not be anything close to the ex but is it a good bike for riding trails and in the mud. He is going to sell this bike for 2500.00 it has the rear and front racks and he has put a k&n filter on it. Please give me some true facts about this bike. ( someone told me it will only do about 40 miles/per hr.)

It's not a fast quad, that's true. But in reality, neither is the 300ex I ride with. The 300ex handles better than the TrailBoss. There is a TrailBoss in our riding group too. It's a very nice quad, *for what is it meant for* It's not a jumper, or a "sport quad". Comparing it's performance to the 300ex, you might be a little disappointed. However, giving the TrailBoss it's fair shake, it's a very good quad. It does great on the trails and you'll be able to haul your own lunch on those racks. It'll be better for hauling any gear you decide you need. Cargo box (tools, 1st aid kits, lunch) or a gas can for longer rides. You'll be happy with it if you can appreciate it for what it is. Hope this makes sense.

For a 2x4, the Boss is pretty well off. It will get farther in the mud then most others, due to its ground clearence and semi-aggresive tires.
RCR has a pipe and silencer for the machine, He also has a big bore kit for it if you feel you want to go that way. www.rittercycle.com
I have heard that AAEN has some mods too, but I am not sure. AAEN does not have a website however.

It is a great machine 2500 is not to bad a deal. nope it won't be a 300EX replacement. Yeah a little over 40. Those tires are great for the rear a friend put some on his Warrior and he could really go through the mud. Gave him allot of traction over the stockers.

Try it before you buy it, if you haven't already. It's a lot different than the 300EX you just sold. Heavier for one, and it handles quite a bit differently.
On the other hand, you will probably enjoy the reverse. It's a lot easier than the system on your Honda. On the TB, you just **** and throttle.
I haven't clocked mine, but I think some old posts in here listed about 45-48mph speed wise. You'll also find some posts where riders have modded the TB to give it a few more miles p/hr. But it won't ever be a speed demon.
It does good on tight trails and in the mud as well. It's heavy, but it's easy to handle and has pretty good suspension.
I think Polaris built this quad for beginners or those who just didn't want a bunch of shifting and gear changing, and people that wanted to sport some and work some on the same machine. So you get a tatse of both worlds with the TB.
Here are a few web sites that offer Polaris mods. Some of them don't even list options the TrailBoss, but you can give them a call.

They won't win many races, but seem to be well put together.
To sum it up it is a good trail machine for begenners to intermediates (as it is an easy machine to learn on), is simple and fun to ride. If you aren't the type that has to outrun everyone else, but just wants to cruise the countryside and have fun doing it, it is a great machine.

My brother and I ride together all the time and he has a 2001 trail boss. He loves it. It rides better than my trailblazer and has better low end. The seat is far more confortable and it is a better double machine or if you are over 200lbs.
And latter if you want more go ritter can change it to a 414 instead of a 325... that you can do without anyother mods or pipe it and new air filter. The 414 mod runs around $400 dollars labor and all from ritter he does all the boring and everything and comes with piston and all. The kit is realy a heck of a power gain. Also being 4 stroke and with 4 gallon gas tank you can ride all day and half next day without filling up.
They say once made into a 414 it will keep up with a scrambler to about 45 mph.
