Quad Man & all others reading this post:

My sincere apologies, I just got back from a trip in N Mn. after overiding the reverse overide switch on my Scrambler 500. I found out the hard way that everything works perfect, except that you do not have 4X4 in reverse. After looking at the wiring scematic I think I found the problem and I'm going to attemt to fix it this weekend. I will let you know how it goes.

Talking about disabling the O/R switch ya say? What a sore subject for me. To be a graduate from college with an Electronics degree, that schematic will still make you pull somebody's hair out! I found the best way, for me anyway, to disable the O/R switch is to:

This is for a '99 Scrambler 500

1.) Cut the PUR and GRY/W wires coming from the left side of the HB's. (Actually by the schematic, you should choose the GRY/OR wire instead of GRY/w. But from trial & error, I found the schematic to be wrong in having those color wires reversed.)

2.) You now have four loose ends. Connect the PUR and GRY/W wires (NOT the two wires coming from the O/R switch) loose ends together with at least a 20amp 12v diode with the power going towards the GRY/W wire. I soldered and heat shrinked them together.

NOTICE: The diode makes the REVERSE light go off in the forward gear selection. If you don't mind the light being on in the FORWARD gear selection, you can simply do away with the diode.
