TrailBoss 250 help
#71
The tank holds two quarts and the oil/fuel ratio from the pump is set around 50-1. Even running at normal speeds you can get upwards of 4 to 5 tanks of gas (16-20 gallons) to every two quarts of oil. With that being said, then NO you're not using hardly any oil trying to start the machine whether by the recoil or electric starting. PS look at the "sticky" above this thread section for "Manuals" you can look at. Any 250 engine,Trail Boss,Trail Blazer, etc no matter what year will help you out understanding this engine.

Cycle Parts Warehouse or Cheap Cycle Parts whichever one is cheaper on parts and shipping. You might also check a local dealer as they should be a stock item and shouldn't be much on cost. OPT

I just replaced both crank seals on the trail boss, the old ones looked fine but I stil replaced them. Still all that's happening is back firing out the carb, it will not start just every few times I pull the pull start back fires and sounds like a shotgun, whatelse could b the problem ...timing is what I have been told

Use a multimeter set to ohms.Test the stator exciter coil BLK/R to Brn/White should be 120 ohms (+ or- 20%) Primary tab on coil to ground 0.3 ohms, Secondary(coil) tab to wire end(cap removed) 6.3K ohms (+ or_ 20 %) Plug cap itself 3.7k to 6.3k ohms resistance (+ or - 20%) If these check out within range and compression is good 125 psi or better, then possible cdi problem,BUT no test shown on the manual. Most shops would replace with a known good cdi to eliminate or confirm it as a problem.Cdi module an cause popping back if faulty as it allows for timing, same thing with low engine compression. Also when you reinstalled the top end did you use new head and base gaskets? OPT

Ok I will test what u have listed. Now does that matter if I don't have a battery or do I have to pull start each time to test? And yes all Gasket were replaced with Gasket kit made for my 97 trail boss. Thanks

You test the wire resistance WITHOUT the engine running!! DOESN'T matter if you don't have a battery! The stator wires are the ones going into the cdi module. The coil tab is where the single wire from the cdi plugs into the coil, remove this wire to test the coil resistance. OPT
