Another vote here for the WARN. I got the XT25 because of the synthetic rope that comes on it. Great stuff.

Both my ATVs have a winch and I never used them. The trick is to ride with other people who have them.

Brandon.

Before you put a winch on, get a bottle of Demand drive from your dealer and change the front fluid.

If you ride alone, get a winch. I ride alone a lot, and for that, a winch is necessary. No CAA in the bush...LOL

If you're riding with me and you get stuck, and you have a winch- guess who's winch & boots are getting muddy....? Hint- not mine

Every 4x4 atv really should have a winch. Even the smaller 4x4 atvs are pretty heavy. You get your xp 850 or any other full size atv stuck, you're looking at 800-1000lbs of machine to lift- good luck without a winch!

I have 2 of the Viper winches, a 4500lb on a '09 Sportsman 800 touring, and a 5000lb on my '12 Polaris Ranger 800 XP. On the Sportsman 800, standard steel cable, Ranger 800 XP has Synthetic cable, IMO, go with the Synthetic Rope if Viper is your choice. Look at Warranties, and you see that a 2 year is comparable to the Warn. 2500lb winches are good, but if you are riding with the big boys, you will want the big dog to pull them out and they will be buying you choice of Ale!!!

I dont have a winch on either of my ATV's, but I think its gonna be on my Christmas list. A winch is relatively cheap for the uses it has. I will always be riding with my father in law on his 300 4x4 arctic cat and we have tow straps, but at the same time the winch could be really handy under a lot of situations. I think Im going to go with Viper or superwinch. Im kind of leaning towards viper. Probably a 2000-2500lb unit.

Anyways, my view on it is that you really shouldnt ever need a winch as long as you are with others on 4x4's and have tow straps, but its also that extra insurance that is great to have.
