Default 06 sportsman 500 4x4 problem

Hi all, my 06 500 sportsman says its in 4x4 but only 2 wheels are spinning. My Polaris dealer changed a sensor for the spedo with no luck on the 4x4 problem $200 later and now hes saying roll cage$$$$ I looked up on the web and im reading JD parts can save me some money but the threads are 07 and from the States(Im in Ontario, Canada). Im not sure if the part numbers are still the same?

seal kit MIA10654
A-plate MIA 10656
roller kit MIA 10666
cage kit MIA10667

Also ive never worked on a ATV before but im pretty handy, is this a job I should do my self or leave to a mechanic?

Awesome site BTW

The hardest part is getting the front differential out of the frame.Best to have a manual as a guide on the tear down. As far as the JD parts others can advise you on them as I never used em,but they would probably work on your model along with the other 500s that people have replaced them with. You can check some of the other posts on this also. http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...ml#post3163098

I though the new Polaris replacement roll cage was stronger now?

Looks like a 06 and 07 are different the 06 is $168 (#10)Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

The 07 is $88.44 (#13) Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

I,m also in Ontario Canada ,Sault ste Marie the parts sure are cheaper in the States. There,s a ware house that charges $3 to use them as a address and its a 20min drive to pick up the parts, even paying duty there alot cheaper.
Most times customs does not bother with duty below $200.

They're still plastic! Even the 2008 model listed the aluminum roll cage as an option on the Polaris Parts Catalog. http://parts.polarisind.com/Browse/Browse.asp Don't think they finally went to all aluminum until 2010, the year I retired. OPT

Would of thought aluminum would be mandatory by now.I guess Polaris is making a killing replacing those exploding plastic cages.

I was still replacing them with the same old plastic cages. We didn't even find out about the optional aluminum cages until 2008 and then either 2010 or 2011 they went to all aluminum cages. What they should have had in the first place! OPT

Just ordered from JD

seal kit MIA10654
A-plate MIA 10656
roller kit MIA 10666
cage kit MIA10667

Cost me $180 including tax. Polaris was close to $400.

I'll update when the parts are in and I give the job a go
