i know one person who said he got thrown off of a scrambler.it wasn't his quad and the owner abused the hell out of it.for all I know he had an axle falling apart,or maybe took the hub apart and stretched the spring.it doesn't really make sense that a wheel would lock up just because the hub engaged.isnt the axle already moving the same speed as the hub anyway

Happened to me on an old Magnum 4x4 years ago I was testing on our back road at the shop. I was going about 20 mph and the right wheel locked in and I ended up in the ditch.I was testing it for other reasons at the time. Wasn't hurt, but took it nice and easy back to the shop. You've got 8 bearings, two roll cages 2 coils,2 armature plates along with the cv joints that you have to deal with. That's the major advantage to me on the centralized awd systems even with their faulty plastic roll cages. I never had one grab and jerk me to one side. But on any machine if it's abused, not maintained,it's an accident waiting to happen.

Two wheel drive! Test driving it to duplicate owners complaint of cutting out problem. The right hub was almost dry from a leaking hub seal and the armature plate was magnetized to the coil allowing the roll cage to lock into the hub. Again this was neglect on the owners part. Found the carb problem and also serviced the awd after I told him what happened. New armature plates, seals, couple bad bearings and thoroughly cleaned each hub and checked out the roll cages. Tested the awd operation up in the air before I ever sat back down on it to test ride it again.

low hub oil seems to be a common theme when I hear these stories.trouble is they don't hold all that much fluid.im still waiting on parts 4 mine.i cleaned up the spindle with 220 grit and will replace seals and strut bearings.they look just a little worn.inner race on one bearing looks like it got hot.i don't know what nicked the shaft under the bearing race,i think something was missed behind the strut and got ground up in there.the hub looks brand new.i got the new garter spring.is it best to roll it over the cage and install bearings and cam from inside so it doesn't get stretched?

Yes,roll the garter spring over the blank roller cage first, then install the cam and rollers being careful not to stretch the spring too much.

well I changed everything out, even the garter spring on the other side.i drove it around the block a little.ifelt a little pull still in reverse.once on each side this time.then I took it down the road a mile in 2wd 40-50 mph.it was late so I will drive again 2morrow.it seems like the coils may release a little slow.if it doesn't bind bad in forward gear I can live with it 4 now.i wonder if my tourqe wrench lost its accuracy or if I need 2 just put some miles on it.if it sticks in reverse I drive 4ward a few feet it releases.it works great on the jack but if I shut it down in 4wd in high I cant freewheel the front wheels backward unless I move them 4ward a couple inches first
