Hey Guys,

Recently bought an 04 Sportsman 500 and like it a lot. Looking at a Sportsman 90 for my Son. Found an 02 Sportsman 90 for what I think is a good price???? looks pretty clean, but the front rack is damaged and removed. It is a 2 cycle. What should I look be looking for as far as possible/common issues? What year range would I need to search for to find compatible parts? Are there any pros/cons to the 2 cycle? What is a fair price for what I have described? Any help would be greatly appreciated. AND thanks for the help with my 04 500.

The 90 and 50 2 strokes were basically all the same from 2001 to 2006 except plastics for the most part. Common problem I had on the little 2 strokes was water and dirt entry in the flywheel/stator area shorting stators out. Also the electric chokes on the early models didn't work that great,if at all. Easiest way to crank one when cold was blocking the air box inlet tube with your thumb and they'd crank right up.Once warm usually no problem on cranking. Kick starters would stick from belt dust over time along with sticking starter idle gears from dirt.If you've found a good one that's not trashed out and at a good price for you,get it. As with all 2 strokes, piston wear is to be expected,but complete piston/cylinder kits are cheap on Ebay. 4 strokes came out in 2007 and just my if you could afford one I'd look at them and then decide. http://www.kbb.com/motorcycles/polar...n-90/trade-in/
