Real 4x4-- I see in your post you have a new Explorer 400 with a digital speedometer???? I was just at the dealers yesterday and they had 3 new ones on the floor and none of them had a speedomter because they don!t have the headlite pod on them anymore for 2001.Did you buy this speedomter from Polaris and if you don!t mind me asking, what did they charge you for it. I would like to put one on my Explorer to. Thanks

I have a 2000 with about 750 miles on it and it will barley do 60 also!! I am convinced that from the factory you get ones that are faster than others my buddy has one that he bought about 6 months earlier than mine and he completly smokes my a$$. even on top end speed he just keeps creeping away from me.I really wish that I could get a few more mph out of mine without having to add on accessories. Any hints let me Know!! Thanks BOSTY22

I had a 96 explorer which was the old 3 chain set up. with factory dunlap tires at 6 psi and 400 miles on it and K&N. I could peg the old type spedo. The needle went past the 60mph all the way to the odometer cut out. My best guess is i was doing just about 69mph Per the spedo. Flat asphalt and no wind. I too thought it was a bit fast for the tires and suspension.
I sold the explorer and bought a 98 sp500. I miss the speed.

I have a `98 Xplorer, Rebuilt about 3 months ago, Bored .20 over, K&N filter, Clutch kit, 25" Blackwaters. It will do about 65 on level paved surface that I run every time I take it out(its the only way to get to the trail).

MNxplores 99 400 xplorer will do 72 mph on a GPS. Look him up in the threads he is a nice guy he just might tell you some speed secrets.

BTW my HO will do 61.5mph on the GPS not bad for a quad that has 3,000 miles on it.
