efi stator hater
when I plow with my 06 500 efi I cant use my heated grips.if when I trail ride they work fine, but at low speeds they don't.if my headlights are on and I try to use them the check engine light comes on.they make plowing an awful lot better when they work!i see some stators on ebay that say they put out more voltage at idle.this must be a common problem with efi models.has anybody had any success with changing theirs?

i tried the battery .I got a nice gel battery from adventure powersports with higher amps than the factory battery.i t has noticeable faster cranking speed when starting but didn't help problem.i needed a new one anyway and I liked the battery so much I bought another one 4 my girls quad.ill check the charging voltage again.it has done it since it was new.i don't have this issue with carb. models.it seems like the efi uses 2 much juice at idle with the fuel pump, injector, etc.

It is kinda of a catch 22 on the direct current(dc/cdi) efi machines as they do use the battery for ignition which can take less voltage(low as 7 volts) for starting versus the old magneto triggered ignitions on the carb models, but they can have problems with load issues with multiple auxiliary equipment attached, that is if you rule out any charging issues supplying the battery.

I checked the voltage again.warmed up at idle it is14.52,i turn on the headlights,13.32,i turn on the grips it drops down to 12.23.i believe rpm was 1385-1400.i see a company thet makes a stator for 110 bucks.they claim voltage at idle is better.if it truly is I think its worth it.i would like 2 hear it worked out for someone else 2 take the chance

Here in the U. P. I have two friends that had the same problem , I made them harnesses with Anderson plugs { heavy duty battery plugs } and they put a second battery on the back rack , one uses a large industrial gel cell battery the other uses a U1 battery from his riding lawnmower , they take the battery in at night and top if off with a trickle charger , both love it , lots of power and no lights dimming , etc . A lot cheaper and easier than trying a different stator that probably won't make a difference .
