Default Polaris Mikuni Carb

So I'm back still working on getting my Trail Boss 250 running. Its been while but I've gotten everything clean and put back together. When I try starting after it gets going if I crank the throttle it dies out but seems to be doing ok on idle. So do I need to adjust the air/fuel mix screw or the throttle screw.
Also initially I have to use starter spray to get it going. Thanks for the input again guys.

Sounds like either the main jet may be stopped up or you just need a needle and seat. Cleaning a carb doesn't always solve the problem to where a carb kit can. Air screw is normally 2 turns out. Plus if compression is 100 psi or lower carb kit wouldn't help. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARB-REBUILD-POLARIS-KIT-TRAIL-BOSS-250-2X4-4X4-89-90-91-92-93-94-95-96-97-98-99-/271031936722?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f1ac326d2&vxp=mtr

Default Carb

Well I rebuilt the carb with all new pieces....my friend is convinced its not getting any gas and that's why I keep needing starter fluid to start it...However I know there's fresh fuel going into the carb so why its not going where it needs too I'm not sure. Still doesn't explain why its bogging out and dying when it is running and I open the throttle...Thanks again

Another problem that people over look is leaking crank seals. You can have good top end compression, but if the lower end compression is weak(leaking seals) it can't get a good air/fuel mixture to run properly.Starting fluid will usually crank one up because it's lighter that gas.Items 17 and 26.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Ok cool so my next question is how do I check the lower compression? And if it is the seals I'm not that mechanically inclined so how much would you guess it would be to get them replaced if I bought the seals myself... Thanks again old tech. Your a lifesaver again lol

Best way is by using a leak down tester. Will show any areas such as intake manifolds, gaskets or seals leaking, but most people don't have access to one. Seals are cheap and easy to replace. Just need a clutch puller to access one seal, have to pull the flywheel and move the stator to replace the other side. A manual will help.Index of /ORV Manuals/Polaris/1996-1998 - All Models
