Post sportsman front spring preload adjuster for 05-13.why not earlier models?

I was wondering if anyone has tried the tm2 style front spring adjusters on the 04 and earlier sportsmans with outboard hubs.all listings say they fit 05-13 models but the top of the strut appears the same.has anyone tried to use them on the earlier strut?

In 2005 Polaris moved the front strut suspension travel from 6.7" up to 8.2". 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. ATVs That the only change I know of.

The complete lower strut casting was changed on the 05 and up models to use the single large bearing because of the change over to the centralized awd system plus the Sachs cartridge was updated to a longer travel, but the top strut spring tab design was the same as the 04 and earlier and still used the same spring support washer as the earlier models.
