Can my rear gearbox be upgraded 2008 800 Sportsman
#1
As the title says, I have a 2008 800 Sportsman HO
I have the EFI with ADC.
I bought the machine with the specific intent of using it to haul band equipment for my daughter's high school marching band. This means I do quite a bit of riding on hard surfaces, parking lots, school track, etc.. and a good bit of that is sharp turns.
On the track specifically, and sometimes on the football field sidelines, I am trying to avoid tearing anything up. I certainly don't want any bad impressions associated with our school.
That being said...
Is it possible to upgrade my existing rear gearcase to the touring model rear end with selective rear end (locked/unlocked)?
If not, can I replace my rear end with one from a touring model and what would the difficulty level be? I know I'd need a solenoid, and a switch wired into the instrument cluster pod. Not sure if I'm missing anything.
I've tried looking at the blow up diagrams and parts lists for both models and can't really tell anything. It almost appears that on the touring model the trans and rear end are one combined unit, unless I'm reading it wrong.
Just curious what my options are short of selling mine and buying a touring model.

Touring with turf mode is single style gear case versus your model with the separate gear case and rear diff. Anything can be changed over if you so desire and it warrants spending the money for a completely different gear case. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...008&fveh=30461

Thanks. I thought this would be the case. For cost of parts alone, even used, I'd be better off trading up.
For the sake of 4 or 5 competitions a year, I'll live with it like it is.

1900 bucks for a replacement gear case, plus all the work involved in swapping it out or even if you could find a good used one, just not worth the trouble or expense that you couldn't get back out of it. Better like you say to either live with it or sell it and get the one you want.
