My old Sportsman 450 is rated for something like 29 HP. A flick of the thumb and she screams to 6,000 RPM in short order providing its rated power. A 325 may have to go to 8,000 or more to make the same power, but I don't think the rider will notice the difference as long as it's geared right.
So true...
As a Pioneer owner, i know all about gear reduction...or in my case, a lack of gear reduction.

Yupp, my 400HO (455cc) is an amazing little rcket. WOnt do wheelies, but I did not buy it for that. I really question why Polairs lowered the CC that much.

You must have the 700cc variant. My parents just bought a 500 which has a paddle-shift 5-speed transmission. They geared it like a tractor in low gear, I think it's only good for 2 or 3 MPH unless you upshift.

If I had to take a guess, the entire engine lineup was moving towards their "Pro Star" engines which have a LOT more technology than the relatively dinosaur-age Fuji mills. I bet the new 325 shares some parts with its larger siblings, and you just don't need that much displacement to make as much power as the outgoing 455 did.

Yep. How ironic that the 500 will do things at high altitude that the 700 struggles to do.

DGNAZ, are there any aftermarket programmers out for the pioneer yet? I know with all the CARB regulations today, all of these machines, especially the ones over 500cc tend to come stuffed up and running lean from the factory. Maybe that along with a pipe and Uni filter will waken it up a little bit.

The Pioneer is a slick unit. I love how the rear seats fold down into the bed.

Air filters, exhausts and programmers are a huge investment for minimal return.

So true.
The Forman and Rincon have low HP numbers but they are ft/lb torgues monsters.

I have it on good authority ( Dynojet ) that the stock map is very good. I have a UNI in it now and it seems to help a tiny bit but its tough to say.
A pipe might give it "enough", but i hate loud exhausts, and i think Big Gun is going to have issues with cracking the header since they do away with the support in the middle. And should i have to do these things? Most machines are limited by traction. This one is not.
